International Climate Change Talks

In advance of the sixth meeting of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) which will take place in Cancun, Mexico in November and December 2010, there will be prepatory intersession working group meetings in Bonn.

The 13th session of the Ad-hoc Working Group on the Kyoto Protocol (AWG-KP 13) and the 11th meeting of the Ad-hoc Working Group Long term on Cooperative Action under the Convention (AWG-LCA 11) will provide an opportunity to advance negotiations: these follow previous meetings of these working groups in June 2010 which recommenced basic negotiations after the parties were unable to agree on a new climate policy at the Copenhagen Conference in 2009.
The negotiations will focus on the central issue of the contributions made by both industrialised and developing countries to the global effort to reduce emissions, and how the latter are financed. Other issues will also be dealt with, particularly flexible mechanisms (carbon market), adapting to climate changes, strengthening capacities, technologies and measures to halt deforestation in tropical regions.
Accreditation for the UN Climate Change Talks, Bonn (2 to 6 August 2010) is open. Deadline is Wednesday, 28 July 2010.
